Iodine Protocol
The Iodine Protocol
The Iodine Protocol refers to a nutritional supplement regimen that involves taking iodine and companion nutrients, such as vitamin C, selenium, and magnesium, to support thyroid function, detoxification, and overall health.
According to Dr. David Brownstein in his book titled “Iodine, Why You Need It”, It is important to provide the proper nutrients to slow down the oxidative damage that occurs in autoimmune thyroid illness.
Selenium has a narrow margin of safety. Unlike vitamin C, where large doses are rarely harmful, larger doses of selenium can cause adverse effects.
Selenium is important for activating thyroid hormone. If you have side effects with iodine therapy, I suggest looking at selenium deficiency as a possible cause. If your selenium levels are low, supplementing with selenium may correct the problem

For the Iodine Protocol, research has shown that the Iodine and some of its companion nutrients (co-factors) have specific forms which are preferably recommended.
In treating fibroids, cancer, cysts and other iodine-deficient health conditions, the lugol’s iodine is most preferred.
It’s not necessarily the attached brand but the stated form.

Sea salt is a good source of minerals. It detoxifies bromide and other toxins.
According to Lynne Farrow in her book, “The Iodine Crisis”, The Iodine Literate Practitioners recommend using only unprocessed, unbleached, unrefined salt, free of anti-caking and bleaching agents. It is sometimes called Celtic Salt or sea salt. Redmond’s Real Salt is a brand many people like. But many “gourmet,” unprocessed, unrefined salts are available throughout all over the world. Supplementing unrefined salt is part of the companion nutrient strategy and different from the salt loading protocol. The supplementary salt appears to support the adrenals. Many unrefined salt-taking patients report feeling better, perhaps due to the many minerals in unrefined salt that are not found in commercial, processed salt .
If you would be including Serrapeptase in your protocol, then it must be taken separately from other supplements and from the iodine. It should be taken on empty stomach, preferably first thing in the morning before meal and last thing at night before sleep.
A detoxification reaction to iodine usage does happen–about 5% of the time. A detoxification reaction can be minimized by using a comprehensive holistic treatment program including: nutritional support (vitamins and minerals), balancing the hormonal system, getting the body’s pH balanced, eating healthy foods, and other holistic treatments. One of the best ways to minimize a detoxification reaction is to ensure adequate use of unrefined salt as well as supplementation with magnesium and vitamin C.

The ATP Co-factors are Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) and Vitamin B3 (Niacin).
In a situation the ATP Co-factors are not found in a combined state, then they can be bought individually for the iodine protocol. You buy 100mg of Vitamin B2 and 500mg of Vitamin B3.
The niacin form of Vitamin B3 is preferred to the Niacinamide form.
100mg of Vitamin B2 to be taken twice a day, and 500mg of Vitamin B3 to be taken twice a day.
The Vitamin C (1000mg) should be taken twice or thrice a day and away from other supplements otherwise it would neutralize them. Take it one or two hours after the other supplements.
